It still amazes me everyday that fathers must go through so much. Thank you for sharing information on shared parenting, we need more vocal supporters. Looking forward to reading more.

Thank you for this Article. Fathers’ right to be a meaningful part of their children’s lives, have been eroded to the point of non-existence. My research suggests that this is a phenomenon consistent throughout the industrialized nations. Children who are alienated from their fathers are more likely later in life to have emotional/behavioral problems, suffer from depression, drop out of school, fail in their jobs, and suffer from other social problems. I invite you to visit my site devoted to raising awareness on this growing problem: http://fathersprivilege.blogspot.com/

I am also a mom with shared custody of my two children. We switch kids every few months and when it isn't my turn, I still see them every Wednesday evening and every other weekend (their daddy gets this too when it is my turn for the kids to live with me). We also both show up at ball practice, dance lessons, etc. I work very near my children's school and like to go and have lunch with them. Nothing stops their father from doing the same thing if he wanted to (he doesn't, as far as I know, but I wouldn't care if he did). So, even when they live with him, I still see my children often.
My children adore their father and I could never dream of forcing them into an arrangment where their dad is part-time in their lives all the time. I couldn't live with myself!! I don't see how moms can demand full time custody of children that they clearly did not make alone, especially if the father and children clearly want more time together. It's selfish, if you ask me.

Thanks for the article Teri! I have had misgivings for over a year, seen the hate mail to others, and heard many of the allegations you site herein. I cannot take an official position as the President of Dads of Michigan without a vote of my Board, but personally, I am with you, Ray and the others!
