Tools for Co-Parenting

From Jennifer Wolf’s Guide to Single Parents:

One of the biggest gifts you can give your kids is your effort to get along with your ex. After all, your decision not to raise your children together as a couple changed the structure of your family, but you’re still “family.” You’ll always be family. And demonstrating that message to your kids by the way you treat one another provides stability and reassurance.

Singapore to your neighborhood, Dads want equality

True gender equality benefits men and women

Callan Tham:

Singapore is still a long way from accomplishing true gender equality; true gender equality is more than just adequate rights and protection for women, it is also adequate rights and protection for both men and women. Only when this balance is achieved will we be able to say we have an equal society where both men and women are expected to contribute to society and their families in every way they can, and not just restricted to long obsolete pigeonholes of neatly packaged responsibilities dictated by gender. Parental-Alienation-Singapore

Wee Cheng:

excerpts:

[T]oday daddy received an email from a friend congratulating me for our YouTube video hitting the 5,000 views mark…

I made this video for you ever since we were deprived of quality time together almost 600 days ago…

It is a tribute to all the other Singapore and overseas parents who are made victims of Parental Alienation by selfish personnels and authorities who prefer to live in denial and turn a blind eye to our sufferings.

Gender equality: Men in child care, the last frontier?

Anthony D’Tiole, 20, of Moraga, Ca. says when he first started out, he had to work harder to get the jobs that came easily to his female counterparts.  “They might have five interviews and be offered four jobs,” he said, “I’d have 20 interviews; and if I was lucky, I’d be offered one position.”  D’Tiole is a male child care provider, a male nanny, a “manny.”

Some parents admit to having a preference for a female nanny because they fear their children could become victims of sexual abuse, even while acknowedging that it’s wrong to suspect all men.  Women commit 14% to 40% of sexual abuse reported against boys and 6% of offenses reported against girls.

“If we want truly egalitarian parenting and society as a whole — shouldn’t that include men in nurturing roles?,” asks Elisa on the blog Mother Talkers.   more…

Equally Shared Parenting: Sharing Domains Of Life Equally

Marc and Amy are a married couple who practice Equally Shared Parenting. They’ve gotten some attention lately, even beingmentionedin Italy.LastJune their story was covered in theNY Times magazine. Recently they inspired Viv and and her husband Simon to try 50/50 parenting for a week:

A fair share?

An American scheme claims to have found a way to divide childcare and chores equally between parents. Viv Groskop and her husband tried it for a week. Here’s how they got on

Marc and Amyhavean Equally Shared Parentingblog. In their 300th postMarcsays the Italian story didn’t quite get it right. He explains, for what “what feels like the 300th time”

  • Equally Shared Parenting is not 50/50 equal chore division. It is about sharing each of four domains of your life approximately equally so that you both experience the joy and share the work in all areas, and enjoy balanced lives.
  • Equally Shared Parenting is not about lists (we’ve met very few ESP couples who make them, and we certainly don’t). It is not a life of rules or discipline. It is teamwork.

This is the same problem family law reform advocates have when proposing equal custody laws for unmarried and divorced parents.Lawmakers don’t seem to understand the flexibility parentsare capable of when sharing equal legal and physical custody.

  • Equally Shared Parenting is not done explicitly for fairness or in worship of feminism. It is fair, and it is directly in line with feminism. But it is chosen by couples who practice it because they believe it allows them to live their best lives. Both of them.

Now, I have to admit, this part surprised me. I’m surprised anyone would accusethem of having feminist motives. For the last 6 years I’ve watched feminist organizationslobbying against every equal parenting bill.
